Banakonda Kennedy-Kish

Awnjibinayseekwe, also known as Banakonda Kennedy-Kish Bell is an Indigenous Elder and a traditional knowledge keeper working towards the inclusion of Indigenous knowledges in diverse educational settings. Banakonda is a traditional cultural advisor directly involved in curriculum development and implementation in institutions, such as the Humber College in Ontario, the First Nations Technical Institute Ryerson, and other community colleges across the country. Banakonda also works as an Elder/instructor for the MSW Aboriginal Field of Study at Wilfrid Laurier University and with the Four Directions Aboriginal Students’ Centre at Queens University offering opening and closing prayers in Traditional gatherings. Banakonda has been appointed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to be a member of the Traditional Council of the College of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario since 2010.
